Lee Lumpkin was born in King William County, Va., in 1833. He lived there until the last war, in which he served, on the Confederate side, throughout the great struggle. He then came to Owensboro and entered into partnership with W.T. Courtney as a druggist. In 1866 he married Miss Florence Coffey.
In 1868, he opened a book store, which he conducted successfully until he sold out to the Messenger in 1880, along with the Examiner. He is now a member of the firm of W.J. & L. Lumpkin, merchant millers at the north end of Crittenden street.
