Early History
Owensboro Wagon Company began in 1883 on the east side of Leitchfield Road, north of East Forth Street. At its peak, 6,000 wagons were produced here annually. As the city's largest manufacturing plant, employing up to 250 men, the company produced wagons for various functions and loading conditions. One hundred wagons per day were produced with signs on the sides and back that simply read, "The Owensboro."
Notable People
Longtime Owensboro Mayor, James H. Hickman, was an original officer, and Josh T. Griffith was the company president for many years.
