John Young Brown, (nephew of Bryan Rust Young and William Singleton Young), a Representative from Kentucky; born in Claysville, Hardin County, Ky., June 28, 1835; was graduated from Centre College, Danville, Ky., in 1855; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1857 and commenced practice in Elizabethtown, Ky.; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1859-March 3, 1861), but because he had not attained the age required by the Constitution he did not take his seat until the second session; member of the Douglas National Committee in 1860; elected to the Fortieth Congress, but his seat was declared vacant because of alleged disloyalty; elected to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1873-March 3, 1877); censured by the House of Representatives on February 4, 1875, for the use of unparliamentary language; resumed the practice of law in Louisville; Governor of Kentucky 1891-1895; returned to Louisville, where he practiced law until his death in Henderson, Henderson County, Ky., January 11, 1904; interment in Fernwood Cemetery.

Represented Daviess County in Congress.
