&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;James Streshly Jackson, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Fayette County, Ky., September 27, 1823; pursued classical studies in Centre College, Danville, Ky.; was graduated from Jefferson College, Canonsburg, Pa., in 1844, and from the law department of Transylvania University, Lexington, Ky., in 1845; was admitted to the bar; commenced practice in Greenupsburg, Ky., in 1845; during the Mexican War enlisted as a private in the First Kentucky Cavalry June 9, 1846; commissioned third lieutenant July 9, 1846; resigned October 10, 1846; moved to Hopkinsville in 1859; elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-seventh Congress and served from March 4 to December 13, 1861, when he resigned to enter the Union Army; raised a troop of cavalrymen and was commissioned colonel of the Third Regiment, Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry, December 13, 1861; brigadier general of Volunteers July 16, 1862; killed in the Battle of Perryville October 8, 1862; interment in Riverside Cemetery, Hopkinsville, Christian County, Ky.&lt;br /&gt;

He represented Daviess County in Congress.&lt;br /&gt;
